Subedar (Retd.) Muhammad Jabir: A Life of Service, Education and Interfaith Harmony
A Tribute to Subedar (Retd.) Muhammad Jabir Uncle: A Life of Service, Education and Social Harmony
The passing of Subedar (Retd.) Muhammad Jabir on 26 October 2026, after a brief illness, is a profound loss for Gilgit-Baltistan.
As highlighted in a tribute published by Gilgit Media Network (GMN) on 29 October, Subedar Jabir was not merely a retired military serviceman but an individual whose commitment to public service continued long after his retirement.
Having served in the armed forces, he carried the virtues of military discipline, dedication and patriotism into civilian life. He subsequently devoted himself to education, mentoring young people, promoting moral values and contributing to community welfare. Many of those who benefited from his guidance reportedly went on to serve in diverse professions, including medicine, engineering, the armed forces, civil service and teaching.
Equally significant was his contribution towards inter-sectarian harmony and peaceful coexistence. In a region as socially and religiously diverse as Gilgit-Baltistan, his ability to transcend communal boundaries and place humanity and public welfare above sectarian considerations deserves particular recognition.
His life reminds us that retirement from formal service need not mean retirement from social responsibility. Indeed, the true measure of an individual's legacy lies not merely in the positions held but in the lives influenced, minds nurtured and social divisions bridged.
The most meaningful tribute to Subedar Jabir would be to uphold the values he represented: discipline, education, tolerance, mutual respect and selfless service to humanity.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, relatives, friends, former colleagues, students and all those who benefited from his guidance.
May Almighty Allah forgive him, elevate his ranks in the Hereafter, grant him an abode in Jannat-ul-Firdous and bless his family with patience and fortitude. Ameen.
May his life of service remain an enduring source of inspiration.
